Welcome to the Apex Cool Labs Community! Let's get you started using your Narwhals.
Note: The ideal fill water temp is 70-85°F. However, the Narwhals will work with water ranging from 65-95°F. The fill water should feel neither cold nor warm.
Note: Use refrigerated water (which is around 40°F) or keep a bottle of water on top of the ice with the CNC packs.
The Narwhal will reach the ideal temperature range for palm cooling (50-60°F) in about 10 minutes. For immediate use, cocktail shake your Narwhals for 1 minute. To use, gently hold the Narwhal handles. Do not squeeze. For best performance, swirl the Narwhals slightly as needed. The Narwhals are a palm cooling device for accelerating recovery and mitigating heat stress during physical activity. Use only as directed.
How long will the Narwhals last?
The Narwhals will stay cool for about 2 hours of intermittent use once you begin holding them. If you are outside in the heat, replace the insulating caps and keep them in a shaded area between uses for best results.
Can I set up the Narwhals in advance?
You can easily set up the Narwhals 4 hours before use if they remain in a climate controlled environment (i.e. gym, locker room, etc.) If you are outside in the heat, they can be set up 2 hours in advance, but keep them out of direct sunlight when not in use.
How long should I hold the Narwhals?
Here are some contact time suggestions based on the use case:
Do I need to use both Narwhals?
Cooling both hands is best, but one hand is still effective. Research shows that cooling both hands leads to 1.6X faster cooling compared to one hand.
Why do my Narwhals feel really cold at first?
The Narwhals are designed to maintain a 50-60°F temperature range. If the Narwhals have sat for a while before usage, the initial surface temperature may be a little below 50°F but will nearly immediately return to the optimal range when your hand is in contact with the Narwhals.
Is it ok if my Narwhal "tusks" get darker?
A patina is normal and will not impact the efficacy of your Narwhals. Learn more about how maintenance here.
